Francisco Vargas Quevedo (Mexican nationality, born in Ixtapaluca, México)After studying theater at the National Institute of the Arts, Francisco studied Communications at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, as well as Dramatic Arts at the Hugo Argüelles workshop. In 2004, he directed the documentary Tierra Caliente… Se Mueren los que la Mueven. In 2005, he finished his studies in Directing and Cinematography at the Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica. His thesis short film, El Violín, obtained the Best Iberoamerican Short Film Award in the XVII Guadalajara Film festival, the Ariel Award to the Best Short Film offered for the Mexican Academy of Sciences and Cinematographic Arts and was selected by Cannes Film Festival for the Cinefondation. In 2006, his first feature film called also El Violín, was selected for Un Certain Regard, obtaining the “Best Actor Award”. In the next months, El violin has won 53 awards of the most important festivals of the world, becoming the most awarded in the mexican´s film history. Francisco is currently developing his second feature film Aqui no pasa nada : how a news event – a dying 73 year old female Indian goat Sheppard struggles after encountering the military – is exploited by the press and politicians.
