Yang Heng is of ethnic minority origin, Tujiazu of Xiang Xi, he was born in 1975 in Jishou, a small city situated in the west of Hunan Province. Graduated form Hunan Broadcast & TV University in 1994, he worked in government department and later at vocational school. In 1999, he went to Beijing Film Academy, major in photography, and graduated in 2001. Starting from the same year, he became an independent film director and scriptwriter, he directed 3 short films: Accidented, Carriage, The Forgotten Moment, and also worked as a freelance director for several TV channels. In 2006, he shot his first feature, Betelnut, which received several international awards. Recently he was invited to present his video installation, Nirvana, in Rotterdam International Film Festival 2008. Sunspot, his second feature film, is a love story of a young gangster, which take place in a small town of southern China. Ah Li live with his father on the outskirts of the town, earn a living by debt-collecting. One day he fell in love with a girl who just take him as a temporary lover, Ah Li doesn’t mind this obscure love, the love is moistening his body and mind, it was just like the mild sun, gentle breeze and drizzle moisten the earth, but he doesn’t know the love is at the same time nourishing his violence deep inside the body…
