Ioana Uricaru was born and raised in Romania during the totalitarian Communist regime. The fall of the Wall found her a student at the University of Bucharest, where she was studying biology. After obtaining a Master’s degree in Molecular Biology, Ioana decided to become a filmmaker instead and completed her undergraduate degree at the Romanian University of Theatre and Cinema, then went on to pursue a graduate degree at University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts. Her thesis short “”The Sun and The Moon”” was selected for several international festivals and in 2008 Ioana co-directed the Romanian omnibus feature “”Tales From the Golden Age”” (Festival de Cannes – Un Certain Regard, 2009), acquired for theatrical release in over 25 countries. At the Residence, Ioana is writing her first feature – the story of a Romanian woman who marries an American and discovers a secret from his past.
