Khadar Ahmed

Khadar Ahmed was born in Mogadishu, Somalia, in 1981. Khadar emigrated with his family as a refugee to Finland at the age of 16. After nine years of living in the country, the self-learned filmmaker won a short screenplay contest in 2007 with his script “Citizens“, organized by the Finnish Film Foundation and Finnish Broadcasting Company YLE.”Citizens” was screened and awarded at numerous film festivals including Locarno Film Festival, where it won the second prize, Leopards of Tomorrow , Prix Arte at Premiers Plans Film Festival in Angers, France, The youth jury award at Tampere Short Film Festival and best short film at Helsinki Short Film Festival. Khadar’s first feature film screenplay ”The Grave Digger” was among the six finalists of Shasha Grant 2011, Abu Dhabi Film Commission’s international screenplay competition. He since focused on mastering the craft of writing and developed several other feature films including “My Best Summer Job Ever” which is in development and is slated to get into production in summer 2015. Khadar’s latest short film ”We Don’t Celebrate Christmas” was selected for Helsinki Short Film Festival in November, 2014, where it also had its world premiere.
