Mitra Farahani was born in Tehran in 1975. At the age of 14 she began an art apprenticeship with masters of pictorial arts, most notably with Gholam Hossein Nami. After her high school diploma and a graphics degree from Teheran AZAD University, she came to Paris as resident of the Cité Internationale des Arts. In December of 1999 she directed a ‘happening’ entitled “You are invited to a funeral ceremony”. In 2001 she continued her audio video studies at the Ecole Supérieure des Arts décoratifs de Paris and directed her first 26-minute documentary “Just a woman”. The film was selected at the Berlin Film Festival and won the special prize of the jury at the Teddy awards. In 2004 she directed a 67-minute documentary, “Zohre and Manouchehr “, which was presented at Berlin. The film was released in France and Canada under the title “Taboos”. In 2005 she directed a documentary portrait of Iranian abstract and expressionist pioneer painter Behjat Sadr, “Madam Sadr”. She is currently working on her second feature film project “Coq, légendes urbaines”, a doll workshop, a garment workshop, a circumcision waiting room, 5 women playing cards and bird merchant bazaar…
