Oscar Ruiz Navia was born in Cali (Columbia) in 1982. Oscar earned a degree in Social Communication-Journalism from Valley University. Assistant Director on the feature film ‘Perro Come Perro’ by Carlos Moreno (Sundance FF) and Assistant Cinematographer on the feature films ‘El Rey’ by Antonio Dorado and ‘Yo Soy Otro’ by Oscar Campo. Director of the short films ‘Al Vacío 1,2,3’, ‘Los Hijos de la Bestia’, ‘Sunrise’ and ‘En la Barra hay un Cerebro’. In 2006 he created Contravia Films, an independent production company, to produce new talents and his own films. With his first feature film ‘El Vuelco del Cangrejo/Crab Trap’ he won the International Critic´s Award FIPRESCI at the Berlin Film Festival (Forum) 2010 as well as 9 other awards and has been selected at more than 40 festivals around the world. He is currently writing his second feature, which he will also direct, and writer ‘Los Hongos /The Fungi’.
