Rubén Imaz Castro was born in México City on September 1979. He studied at the Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica in México City. In 2004 he was selected to participate at the Berlinale Talent Campus 2 with his one minute short film CICATRIZ (Scar). Familia Tortuga is his thesis project and first feature film. The film was shot in 18 days, and most of the shooting was made at the house of Ruben’s grandmother. The production cost of the film was around 8000 euros. Familia Tortuga had it’s international premiere at San Sebastian in 2006, and it has participated in several film festivals around the world, receiving many awards. Rubén is working on his next feature, a kind of a road movie about a spanish painter who goes to México trying to find new inspiration for his work. “It’s a confrontation with an unknown society, a guide for artistic answers and a quest for a human being who’s going to rediscover himself” Rubén says.
