Rungano Nyoni was born in Lusaka, Zambia and moved to Wales, UK when she was ten years old. She completed her first degree in Business Studies at the University of Birmingham, where she graduated with honors. She shot her first film The List while studying to be an actress at the University of Arts, London where she completed her Masters degree. The List went on to win a BAFTA Cymru in 2010. Her most recent film, Mwansa The Great, has gone to be selected at over 80 international film festival and has won over 20 prizes and picked up a BAFTA Nomination (2012) along the way. In 2012 she wrote The Mass of Men which premiered in Locarno Film Festival winning the golden leopard award. At the residency she is developing her debut feature film Solidarité, a tragi-comedy, set in Zambia centered around a child prodigy.
