Takeshi Fukunaga

Takeshi Fukunaga is a Japanese filmmaker based in New York. He is an alumnus of IFP First Fea-ture Lab and Berlinale Talents. His directorial debut film, Out of My Hand (2015), shot in Liberia and New York, premiered in the Panorama section at Berlin International Film Festival. The film won the US Best Fiction Award at the 2015 Los Angeles Film Festival and was later released worldwide through Ava DuVernay’s distribution company, ARRAY. Takeshi was nominated for the 2016 John Cassavetes Independent Spirit Award and won the 2015 Emerging Filmmaker Award by Pacific Arts Movement. He is currently developing Iomante, his second feature film set in his home state, Hokkaido, Japan.
