2023 La Cinef Selection: Program 3

For its 26th edition, La Cinef selected among 2000 films submitted by film schools from all around the world, 14 short fictions and 2 animated short films, among which 10 films are directed by women and 7 films by men.

13 countries from 4 continents are represented including Morocco, for the first time in selection. The Jury chaired by Ildikó Enyedi will give out 3 La Cinef awards, during a ceremony that will be followed by the screening of the awarded films, Thursday, May 25, in the Buñuel theatre.

NEHEMICH de Yudhajit Basu
FTII – India – 23′

Banished from the village to a dilapidated hut for the duration of her period, a young girl hopes to elope with her lover. She belongs to an erstwhile village of nomads believing that the dead return in the form of the most beloved one.

 

IMOGENE de Katie Blair
Columbia University – United States – 19′

Imogene is a single, free-spirited New Yorker in her 40s. Unprompted, her absurdly traditional family thrusts a pregnancy on her. But all that can be expected from Imogene is the unexpected.

 

ELECTRA de Daria Kashcheeva
FAMU – Czech Republic – 27′

Electra rethinks her 10th birthday, mixing memories with dreams and hidden fantasies.
