During the Spanish Civil War, a Republican plane, returning from a mission, lands at the airfield where volunteers from various countries await to fight against fascism. In Teruel, held by Franco’s forces, a group of resistance fighters attempts a sortie to aid the villagers of Linas and blow up a bridge vital to fascist reinforcements. Two planes bomb the enemy airfield and the bridge but are attacked by fighters, which manage to take off. Returning safely, one of the crews learns that the other aircraft has crashed in the mountains above Teruel. The commander oversees the recovery of the dead and wounded from the crash. A human chain forms on the mountain to accompany the valiant fighters.
