Suite à une dispute avec son mari, Jasmin, une femme d’origine bavaroise, atterrit dans un petit hôtel miteux situé entre Las Vegas et Disneyland : le « Bagdad Café ». L’endroit, dirigé par Brenda, une jeune femme bruyante et revêche, est un repaire de routiers et de personnages fantasques. C’est dans ces conditions que va naître une amitié hors du commun, entre Jasmin et Brenda, deux personnalités pourtant diamétralement opposées.
