The twelve emerging talents of the Résidence 2017

They spent four months toiling away at the scripts for their new projects in the heart of Paris, in the hope of convincing producers, and particularly those attending the Festival de Cannes, to join them on their journeys. The twelve young film-makers selected for the two annual Résidence de la Cinéfondation sessions showcased their upcoming films on 25 May before a panel of 50 eagle-eyed producers.

The film-makers taking part in the 33rd (1 October 2016 – 15 February 2017) and 34th (1 March – 1 July 2017) sessions flocked to the Gray d'Albion's beach to pitch their feature films, run through their casting and budgets, explain the essence of their concepts and reveal their projects' current stage of development.

All shared the same dream of following in the footsteps of prestigious Résidence alumni such as Kornél Mundruczó or László Nemes, both of whom went on to have films selected In Competition.
For the first time since the Résidence was founded in 2000, a prize of €5,000 was awarded to the best project in each of the two sessions, in partnership with the CNC.

This year, the Jury comprising Arnaud Depleschin, Julie Gayet and Kaouther Ben Hania, whose latest offering Beauty and the Dogs was selected for Un Certain Regard, awarded the prize to Under the Sun by Qiu Yang and Bootlegger by Caroline Monnet.
