BEN’IMANA
by Marie-Clémentine Dusabejambo

“I made this film because I wanted to pay tribute to the women of my country, to those mothers who are at the very root of a nation’s healing. These mothers who, through error and the unspeakable, have found the strength to stand tall with dignity. And even more so, who have found in their hearts the capacity to give, to forgive, and to move forward — even imperfectly, even painfully, even sometimes without succeeding. This humanity, this bravery, deserve to be acknowledged. […] Making a first film is like jumping into the void. But when you are surrounded by such a strong film family, you don’t fall — you rise. Thank you to the Cannes Film Festival for giving wings to our first steps. Thank you to my country, Rwanda.”
