HAREM SUARE
1904, Istanbul, Yildiz Palace. Outside, the revolution growls. Sultan Abdulhamit dreams while listening to the finale of La Traviata, in his private theatre at Yildiz. But the Sultan only likes happy endings and has had the libretto rewritten so that Violetta does not die. One of his concubines, Safiyè, of Italian origin, is the one who rewrites the libretto for him. In the harem, totally secluded from the rest of the world, life goes on as if time didn’t exist, full of jealousies, happiness and legends. Nadir, one of the black eunuchs, has decided that Safiyè should be chosen by the Sultan. In the long run from concubine to favourite, and from favourite to official wife, Nadir’s plans (though only political at first) will eventually dilute into an incredible love story between them.
