The film is about Diana Sullivan, a New York writer, who wishes to escape the stress and strain life in the city which is affecting her life and relationship with her teenage daughter. She leaves with her daughter in search of a cousin living in Louisiana, far away from the modernism and din of the city that mother and daughter renew contact with distant relatives. There, as in New-York, they find bitterness, jealousy, deep-rooted violence and this confrontation radically changes their lives, leading them to discovery of a new set of values.
