Daniel Brühl was born in Barcelona in 1978. His mother is Spanish and his father German. Daniel spent his childhood in Cologne, and started acting in 1992, first for television, and then on the big screen. One of his first major roles was as Lukas in Das Weisse Rauschen by Hans Weingartner in 2001. It was the success of Wolfgang Becker's Good Bye Lenin! in 2003 that brought him international notoriety and awards for best actor at German and European film awards ceremonies. He worked with Weingartner again in 2004 for The Edukators, which was in competition at the Festival de Cannes, before shooting Charles Dance's Ladies in Lavender and Joyeux Noël by Christian Carion, also presented at Cannes. This year he can be seen at Un Certain Regard in the main role of Salvador by Manuel Huerga.
