Internationally known as the Coen brothers, Joel and Ethan Coen live in New York. They have collaborated since their first film, Blood Simple in 1984, which won the Grand Prix at Sundance Film Festival. They write, direct, and produce their films jointly, although until The Ladykillers (2004), Joel received sole credit for directing and Ethan for producing. Their films include Raising Arizona (1987), Barton Fink (1991), Fargo (1996) The Big Lebowski (1998), O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000), No Country for Old Men (2007), Burn After Reading (2008), A Serious Man (2009), True Grit (2010) and Inside Llewyn Davis (2013). Critically acclaimed they have been nominated for twelve Academy Awards together, plus one individual nomination for both, winning Best Original Screenplay for Fargo and Best Picture, Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay for No Country for Old Men.
Palme d’or laureates in 1991 for Barton Fink, the Coen brothers are part of the Festival de Cannes history. They have presented nine of their films, often winning the most prestigious prizes: the Award for Best Director in 1996 for Fargo as well as for The Man Who Wasn’t There in 2001 and the Grand Prix for Inside Llewyn Davis in 2013.They have just finished shooting their new film Hail, Caesar!
