Kristin Scott Thomas studied at the Central School of Speech and Drama, London and the Ecole Nationale des Arts et Techniques du Théâtre, Paris. Two years after her debut appearance in Under the Cherry Moon by Prince, she received the Most Promising Newcomer, Evening Standard British Film Award for her role in A Handful of Dust by Charles Sturridge. She then appeared in a series of French films, including Agent trouble by Jean-Pierre Mocky and Force majeure by Pierre Jolivet, before playing the leading role in du Bal du Gouverneur by Marie-France Pisier, Un été inoubliable by Lucian Pintillé, The Confessionnal by Robert Lepage etc...
Her international career has included roles in Bitter Moon by Roman Polanski, Four Weddings and a Funeral by Mike Newell, Angels and Insects by Philip Haas, Mission : Impossible by Brian de Palma, The English Patient by Anthony Minghella, The Horse Whisperer by Robert Redford, Random Hearts by Sydney Pollack and Up at the Villa by Philipp Haas (2000).
