Nandita Das has acted in over 30 feature films, in ten different languages, with directors like, Deepa Mehta, Adoor Gopalakrishnan, Mrinal Sen, Shyam Benegal. She is known to never shy away from controversial issues and unconventional roles. Firaaq, her directorial debut feature film, won many awards and appreciation from around the world. She did her Masters in Social Work and continues to advocate issues of human rights. She has been a featured speaker at many reputed universities and forums. She was a member of the main jury at the Cannes Film Festival, 2005. The French Government conferred her with the Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres. She has been the Chairperson of the Children’s Film Society, India. And recently she wrote, directed & acted in the play, Between the Lines.
