Shu Qi won the acclaim of the cinema-going public and international critics thanks to her role in Hou Hsiao Hsien’s Millenium Mambo, which was presented in competition in Cannes (2001). Her film career began in Hong Kong when she met Andy Lau who gave her the leading role in 5 of his films, including Storm Riders in 1998. At the age of 30, Shu Qi already has 50 films under her belt and is a star in Asia, where she has won many awards, from Golden Horse Awards to Hong Kong Film Awards. Her international career blossomed with Stanley Kwan’s The Island Tales (Berlin-1999) followed by Vivian Chang’s Hidden Whisper (Cannes 2000). She has also worked in Hollywood: Gorgeous with Jackie Chan (1999) and Visible Secret by Ann Hui (2001). The Transporter (2002) was her first film in English. She returned to Cannes in Competition with Three Times by Hou Hsiao Hsien (2005).
