Born 1971 in Lyon, Sylvie Testud began drama classes at the Cours Florent in Paris and went on to train with Dominique Valadié, Jacques Lasalle and Catherine Hiégel at the National Conservatory of Drama. She began her career in Germany and was first noticed in Thomas Vincent's film Karnaval. Chantal Akerman cast her as the heroïne in The Captive (2000) adapted from Proust's La Prisonnière. She was awarded the Most Promising Actress César Award for her interpretation of Christine Papin in Murderous Maids by Jean-Pierre Denis. In 2004, she received the César Award for Best Actress in Fear and Trembling by Alain Corneau. She has since acted in films by Jeanne Labrune, Pierre Jolivet and again Chantal Akerman (Tomorrow We Move) and Alain Corneau (The Blue Words). She will soon appear in La Vie est à nous by Gérard Krawczyk.
