The Cinéfondation Selection: Programme 2

Sixteen medium-length and short films, chosen from more than 2,400 entries by film school students, are being shown at the 2017 Festival de Cannes Cinéfondation. We asked each filmmaker to give us a good reason to see their film.

 

The 2nd line-up is made up of the following films, which will form the programme on 25th May at 11:00 AM in the Buñuel Theatre.

 

Lejla by Stijn Bouma

Bosnia and Herzegovina, Netherlands – 22 minutes

Lejla is a young woman from Sarajevo who feels stuck in her life, working in a fast food restaurant and taking care of her elderly father. One day she meets Vedad and they fall in love. Vedad offers her the possibility of leaving with him, but she is unsure about what's best for her future.

Ben Mamshich (Heritage) by Yuval Aharoni

Israel – 25 minutes

Noam, a young gay man, discovers that his father, who just died, had a secret affair with a married man. He follows and meets that man. He now holds his father’s secret.

Give up the Ghost by Marian Mathias

United States – 13 minutes

Floyd has worked his whole life. One day, while out on a new job, he discovers something that alters his way of thinking.

Atlantída, 2003 (Atlantis, 2003) by Michal Blaško

Slovakia, Czech Republic – 30 minutes

2003. Martin and Denisija, a young couple from Ukraine, are trying to get to Germany.

The Cinéfondation prizewinners will be announced by the Jury led by Cristian Mungiu, at a ceremony on Friday 26th May at the Buñuel Theatre, followed by a screening of the award-winning films.
