The 2024 Caméra d’or: who are the contenders?
With just a few days to go before the opening of the 77th Festival de Cannes, let’s take a look at the films in the running for the 2024 Caméra d’or. Long-awaited and closely watched by film professionals the world over, the Caméra d’or is awarded each year to the best first film from the Official Selection and the two independent sections, Semaine de la Critique and Quinzaine des Cinéastes.

FESTIVAL DE CANNES
This year, 10 first films feature in the Official Selection of the Cannes Film Festival. They include
- 1 film in Competition: Diamant Brut, the first film by French director Agathe Riedinger and the only first film to feature in the highly prestigious Festival de Cannes Competition.
- 8 films in Un Certain Regard, a section of the Selection from which the two Caméra d’or winners from 2022 emerged: War Pony and Plan 75.
- 1 film at the Cinéma de la Plage : Silex and the City, by Jean-Paul Guigue and Julien Berjeaut
Quinzaine des Cinéastes
In 2023, Vietnamese filmmaker An Pham Thien won the prestigious Caméra d’or with his film Inside The Yellow Cocoon Shell, selected at la Quinzaine des Cinéastes.

SEMAINE DE LA CRITIQUE
This year’s Semaine de la Critique poster is once again a tribute to young filmmakers. The poster shows a smile exchanged between Hafsia Herzy and Nina Meurisse in Le Ravissement, the first film by Iris Kaltenbäck, selected last year at La Semaine de la Critique.
