THE ENGLISHMAN WHO WENT UP A HILL, BUT CAME DOWN A MOUTAIN
The year is 1917 and World War I is raging on the continent and in Great Britain most able-bodied men are on the front lines in France. Those left behind are involved in the war effort. English map-makers Reginald Anson and George Garrad arrive in the Welsh village of Ffynnon Garw to measure “The Garth” – the local mountain and geographical landmark prized by the village. Much to the consternation of the villagers, the map-makers find that the mountain’s measurements fall short and it cannot appear on the official government map as a ‘mountain’.
